Miss Rona Benson, who has been visiting Mrs L. Griffin, of Wellington, and Mrs D. Morrow, of Rangiora. returned to town on Wednesday.

Mrs James Glendining and her niece, Miss Kathleen Shand, left Wellington by the Port Wyndham on Tuesday, bound for London. *•

Miss Chrissie Ellis has left for Johannesburg, where her marriage to Mr Arthur J. Homer will shortly take place.

Miss Olive Porteous and Miss Jessie Anderson have returned to town, having spent three weeks as the guest of Mrs Mina McKinlay, " Claremont." Ratanui.

Miss May Barron, who has planned a world tour, left on Thursday to join the Rangitiki, which leaves Wellington on March 10. She is visiting friends in Timaru and Christchurch en route.

Miss Gwendolyn N. McLaren, who is 'o be a March bride, has been entertained lately at several parties. On Saturday morning last Miss K. R. Every held a gift tea at the Savoy, and the same evening the Misses Kirknatrick gave a laundry party. She was also guest of honour at a picture Darty, followed by a handkerchief supoer, her hostess being Miss Marion Anderson. On Thursday evening Miss P. G. Butler gave a kitchen evening at her home, when the bride-to-be was the recipient of many charming and, useful gifts.

A pleasant evening was spent on Wednesday at the residence of Mrs 'Hugh Neiil, Dunottar, when the members of the choir and the committee of the Maori Hill League of Mothers met to say farewell to the president. Mrs R. L. Fairmaid, and Mrs H. V. Jerred, the vice-president, both of whom are leaving Dunedin. The evening was spent in games and competitions, interspersed with songs by Mesdames Wilson, Naylor, Robinson and Ellis. Mrs E. H. Drew, on behalf of those present, presented a gift to Mrs Fairmaid and Mrs Jerred as a token of appreciation of the valuable services they had rendered to the league.

A special committee is busy preparing for the Columba College fair, which is to be held in the college hall and grounds during next week-end. On Friday night a children's musical concert arranged by Miss Ida White will be presented, after which activities will begin on stalls and side showb., The fair will be open on Saturday afternoon and even&fi. Members of the committee include Lady Sldey. Messrs W. Earnshaw. Arnold Perry, J. S. Jack, McKellar, Mark Hanan. D. Reid, Misses C. M. Ashworth, P. White, J. Cairney, and Messrs J. M. Fraser. P. S. The Mornington League of Mothers held it first meeting fgr the year on Wednesday in the Presbyterian Bible Class room. Mrs Wallace (president) presided over a large attendance, including Mrs Johnson (provincial magazine secretary), who gave a short talk on the magazine. The president welcomed old and new members, and wished the branch a successful year. Musical items were given by the choir, and Mrs Stenhouse gave a solo. Mrs J. A. Hanan gave a talk on the Coronation in Westminster Abbey and other ceremonies she had attended, including the Spithead review. On behalf of members, Mrs Wallace thanked Mrs Hanan for her excellent address. % * * *

Mr Russell-Wood gave a jolly little supper party on Thursday evening, the honoured guest being Mr Bernard Falck. a popular young Playbox player, who is leaving shortly to reside in Christchurch. The studio was gaily decorated with bowls of gladioli, the stage being most attractively arranged and lighted in shades of green and red. Mr Russell-Wood voiced the regret which was felt at Mr Falck's departure, and in handing him a presentation from his Playbox friends, wished him prosperity in the future. Mr Falck feelingly responded. The guests were Mr and Mrs Hugh Sutherland, Mr and Mrs Kenneth Donaldson. A delightful party was given by Mr and Mrs J. Watson on Saturday evening last at their residence. 27 Dick street, on the occasion of the coming-of-age of their eldest daughter, Winifred. A bright programme of games and dancing had been arranged, and during the evening items were rendered by Miss Muriel Christie (songs) and Mr Frank Reggett (pianoaccordion). The dance music was supplied by Mr Charles Mack, and Miss Hazel Woolford supplied extras. After supper the birthday cake was cut, and the usual toasts were proposed and honoured. The ladies of the committee in connection with the New Zealand Society of Accountants' Conference have been busy this week entertaining the wives of visiting delegates. Functions began with a morning tea on Wednesday at the Women's Club, when the visitors —Mrs A. J. Allport (Timan Mrs D. H. Steen (Auckland), Mrs C. H. Wynyard (New Plymouth), Mrs J. Mawson Stewart (Christchurch), Mrs J. M. Elliffe (Auckland), and Mrs Francis (InvercargilD—ware the guests of the committee. In the afternc n Mrs W. R Brown, the wife of the chairman, entertained at her home in Pacific street, others present being Mrs H. H. Sykes, Mrs G. Z. Lindley, Mrs James Hogg. Mrs James Brown, and Mrs G. W Reid. In the evening guests attended a picture party. A motor drive on ThursJa afternoon proved most enjoyable, the visitors arriving back in time to be present at a 5 o'clock party given by Mrs G. W. Reid at her home in Highgate. The lounge and hall were attractively decorated with French marigolds, gaillardias. and pom-pom dahlias in bronze shades, and the hostess received the guests wearing a frock of gold-patterned georgette. Mrs J. Dickie will leave to-day for Wellington, where she will join the Awatea on Monday for a short holiday in Sydney. Before returning, she will visit Rorotua. Tauranga and Napier.

Miss Thelma Wilson, who for some time past has been on the showroom staff of Messrs Wardell Bros., has relinquished her position and entered the Dunedin Training College. Before leaving, she was the recipient of a gold wristlet watch as a token of the good wishes of the staff.

The Poetry Circle of the Otago Women's Club held its opening meeting for the season on Tuesday afternoon, Mrs Cowie presiding over a good attendance of members. "Bird Poems" was chosen as the subject for study, and a delightful and varied selection were read by the many members present,. r

Miss Winifred Stark, principal of the Winifred Stark Libraries, Moray place. City, and South Dunedin, this month celebrates the tenth anniversary of her successful enterprise. In commemorating this event and in appreciation of the valued support of so many readers, Miss Stark has reduced the charge of 3d per book to 2d per book for this month. All the latest books are available at the one price at the Winifred Stark Libraries, and the selection is, without doubt, the most complete and most varied in Dunedin. Until recently these Libraries have been carried on under the title of the Dunedin Book Club.
