Euchre Party An enjoyable euchre party was heM in the Kurow Memorial Hall on Monday last, there being 82 players in attendance. The rarizes were won by the following:—Mrs Bashford 1 (bag of sugar), Mrs A. Collins 2 (51b tea), Mr A. Murphy 3 (101 b ham), Mr lan Dakers 4 (case of pears), Mr. Frank Green 5 (251 b potatoes), Mrs G. McAughtrie 6 (51b honey), Mr J. Mulvena 7 (case of plums). The consolation prizes were won by Mrs Connor and Mrs W. Collins. During the evening several competitions were finalised, and the following were the winners:— Mrs R. W. A. Munro (sheep), Mr A. H. McKinnon (sheep), Mr W. Johns (dressed doll),. The proceeds were In aid of the Catholic Church, Kurow. Swimming Dance At the conclusion of the swimming carnival on Saturday last a dance was held in the Kurow Memorial Hall. The attendance was fair, and Miss N. Nye supplied the music and Mr Dingwall carried out the duties of. M.C. Mr W. Sargent gave some excellent novelty items and dance numbers by means of an amplifier. The Rainfall The rainfall for the month of February was 101'Doints (three days' rain, 95 points being recorded on February 28). compared with 223 points for the same period last year. The total to date for the year is 435 points, compared with 479 for the same period last year. These figures are recorded at Mr J. O. H. Tripp's property, " Glencary Station," Hakataramea Valley. Collie Dog Club The Waitaki Collie Dog Club has issued its programme for the 1938 trials, which are to commence on April 18, Easter Monday. The first two days i will be devoted to th.e local maiden competitors, and both a heading and a huntaway class will be held. The prizes are good, and there is a large number of special prizes, chiefly given by Kurow tradespeople. The open events are the same as have been on the programme for the past few years, and in these, too, it is noticed that the youthful competitor is again catered for, more particularly in special prizes. The prize' money is the same as last year, and about £ 120 is allotted for the trials. On the Thursday afternoon the public will be well catered for. A new class appears this year—an event for women, short head and yard, boys' event, and the usual exhibition yarding for picked dogs. In the evening the annual ball will be held.
