GAOL FOR FRAUD
SUSTENANCE MEN SENTENCED EXCESS MONEY TO BE REPAID (Peb United Press Association* AUCKLAND, Feb. 25. Four men who had made false de- ' clarations since a warning was given by Mr C. R. Orr Walker, S.M., in May last, were sent to prison to-day when a number of men were prosecuted by the Labour Department in the Police Court on charges of making false statements and obtaining property by false pretences. Mr Orr Walker ordered the four men sentenced to repay by way of fines the money obtained in excess as follows: —Peter Sandham, three weeks’ imprisonment, fine £45; Sydney Jansen, one month’s imprisonment, fine £80; Titus Edward McKenna,* two weeks’ imprisonment, fine £ 50; George Wells, three weeks’ imprisonment, fine £7O.
