TRY BEING ALONE

We all get those horrid fits of “ down in the dumps,” when life is so dull, and nothing exciting ever seems to happen That is the time to take a day off—a day alone. “A. day alone!" most of you will exclaim. “How could that possibly be a cure for the blues? ” How often one hears the remark: “I couldn’t go—l had no one to go with.” It is astonishing how many people will not do anything without a companion, yet what a feeling of adventure there is in setting out for a ramble in the country all by yourself. Anything might happen! You might discover hidden treasure, as did a gre£it friend of mine (says a writer in Home Chat). She liked nothing better than to throw a bag of golf clubs across her shoulders and go off by herself to a little-known course right off the beaten track.

One day she was wandering up and down trying to find a ball that seemed to have hidden itself completely, when she looked up suddenly and saw to her amazement a tall, fair-haired “ bandit" descending upon her. So began a romance which had a happy ending. There is a wonderful thrill, too, in setting out for a holiday all by yourself. It shouldn’t be just an ordinary kind of holiday, but something that you have never done before; for instance, a sea voyage. Being alone is a tremendous asset on board ship, When the purser knows you are by yourself he will immediately suggest a jolly table for meals. Fellow passengers will go out of their way to include you their parties. If you prefer dry land, why not a walking tour? You will rub shoulders with all kinds of interesting folk, and the friendly country people will often fall into step, at your side. They would hesitate to intrude on two friends. f. - t -'. Never be afraid of starting out alone to seek the hidden treasures of lif& Romance and adventure will be waiting round the corner.
