LARGEST FLYING BOAT

A FRENCH PROJECT France is about to build the largest flying boat in the world. It will be one of two designed for the trans-Atlantic service. It is expected that both will be completed in 1940. The larger boat, to be known as No. 631, will weigh 65 tons, be equipped with six motors, and cruise at 215 miles an hour over a range of 4000 miles, allowing for a 40-mile-an-hour head wind. A crew of eight will be quartered in the upper forward section of the machine. Twenty passengers will be earned in the centre compartments, where there will be a bar, shower baths, a large saloon, and an office. Three tons of freight will be stowed in the tail section. *
