TROTTING NOTES
By Sentinel Waikarl Jack Waikari Jack created a good impression when he won on the first day of the Greymouth Trotting Club s meeting. He is a three-year-old by
Jack Potts from Golden Bond, by Worthy Bond, second darn by Petereta, third dam by Rothschild.
The Cambridge Meeting The chief event at the Cambridge meeting is the Cambridge Summer Handicap, 4,49 class, which has drawn a field of 11 improving pacers. F. J. Smith holds a strong hand with Bexley Girl and Mountain Flight, and M. Stewart also has a bracket with King Country and Hearsay.
A Promising Sort The three-year-old Uenuku, who attracted attention when he finished second to Eyre in the Frankton Handicap at Hamilton, was not started until the last day of the Auckland meeting; owing to being a trifle sore, but the track was too firm and he could not do himself justice. Uenuku, by Roy de Oro from Bicolour, is very promising. His stablcmate Ratepayer, a full-brother to Taxpayer and Refund. has twice demonstrated rare speed in races, but appears unable to control it. A little improvement and he would pay his way. An Impressive Effort Kcwpio's Queen’s success in the second division of the December Handicap in 3min 28sec off 3.43 at the Auckland Trotting Club’s summer meeting was an impressive effort for a three-year-old. and she has won earlier than any of her five winning relatives. Kewpie’s Queen is a levelheaded pacer with speed and staying ability and should not be long in extending her record. A Matinee Meeting
The Minister of Internal Affairs, Mr W. E. Parry, has granted authority to the Auckland Trotting Owners, Trainers and Breeders’ Association to hold a matinee meeting for maiden horses at Alexandra Park. Epsom, on Saturday. January 22. The programme has been approved by the New Zealand Trotting Association. The Auckland Club has given permission for the meeting to be held on its course Wilveranj An interesting New South Wales visitor to New Zealand for the championships is Wilveranj. He is exceptionally fast (says a Sydney paper), and probably a champion. At his last appearance in Sydney he was disqualified for two years. Part of this sentence has now been lifted, to enable him to compete in the Dominion His track work prior to his disqualification was phenomenal, and even made old track watchers gasp. He is without doubt a great horse, and if in form will amply repay expenses of the trip.
