A WIDOW’S DEATH
TRAGEDY IN APARTMENT INQUEST ADJOURNED (Per United Press Association) AUCKLAND, Jan. 6. Sitting in a chair in a corner of a gas-filled room with a cloak over her head. Mrs Alis Wood, a widow, aged about 50 years, was found dead in an apartment in St. Paul street about 9 o’clock this morning. At the inquest the keeper of the apartment said that Mrs Wood had come from Australia. She was very reserved and had been in receipt of an income, but recently that stopped and she had been trying to get work. She had been depressed, but last night seemed well and cheerful. Witness knew of no friends of the deceased in Auckland, but had reason to believe that she had a friend at Napier. The inquest was adjourned for further evidence.
