SALARIES OF MEMBERS
PRIME MINISTER’S STATEMENT INCREASE NOT YET CONSIDERED (Per United Press Association) WELLINGTON. Jan. 6. “ The Government has not yet considered the matter," said the Prime Minister (Mr M. J. Savage) in reply to a question in an interview this evening, as to whether any action was contemplated in New Zealand following the recent action by the British and French Governments in increasing the salaries of members of the House of Commons and Chamber of Deputies respectively. “ The time must come when members of Parliament will get increases,” Mr Savage added, “ but we have first to consider those who are still in a worse position even than members of Parliament.”
