BURGLAR APPREHENDED
TRACED BY FINGERPRINTS COMMITTED FOR SENTENCE (Per United Press Association) WELLINGTON, Dec. 8. Bernard Edward Way, aged 19, a truck driver, was charged with breaking and entering by day a dwelling at Roseneath and also with theft. The evidence of Mrs Painter was that the accused .was employed for a few days by her husband, whose butcher shop was in front of the dwelling, and was dismissed when he did not arrive to work on November 16. She and her husband, were away on the night of Saturday, November 20, and on returning found the house in the possession of the police. A milk roundsman gave evidence of finding a window open, but getting no response to a call at the back door he informed the police. The latter linked up the accused with the crime largely by means of fingerprints.
The accused pleaded guilty and was - committed to the Supreme Court for sentence. 1
The hearing of a further charge, of the conversion of a car at Christchurch on June 21, was deferred till the accused was dealt with in the Supreme Court.
