ESPERANTO CONGRESS
* EIGHTH IN NEW ZEALAND The eighth New Zealand Esperanto Congress will take place under the auspices of the New Zealand Esperanto Association at Christjhurch during the New Year holidays. Arrangements have been completed for the congress to commence on New Year’s Day and lo extend over the two following days The Mayor of Christchurch (Mr J. W. Beanland) will open the congress and also accord a civic welcome to the visitors. The assemblage will include, in addition to local enthusiasts, club representatives, International Association delegates and individual visiting Esperantists. The official programme will comprise a ceremonious opening, two business sessions, a lecturette session which will be conducted entirely in Esperanto, a concert and social, a sight-see-ing excursion and other social functions. With headquarters in Wellington and under the patronage of Mr J. A. Hanan. M.L.C., Chancellor of the University of New Zealand, the association concluded its ninth year’s operations on November 30. The association is the Dominion parent body of 12 clubs, etc., and possesses a substantial membershin drawn from about 80 towns. The last pre : vious congress was held at Wanganui two years ago, the annual gathering last year being postponed on account of the paralysis epidemic.
