RAILWAY EMPLOYEES
PAYMENT OF WAGES ARRANGEMENTS FOR CHRISTMAS (From Our Parliamentary Rerorter) V/ELLINGTON. Dec. 8. A request that railway employees whose fortnightly pay-day falls on December 30 should receive their pay earlier, preferably on Christmas Eve. was made by Mr J. A. Roy (Opposition. Clutha) in an urgent question addressed to the Minister of Railways (Mr D. G. Sullivan) in the House of Representatives to-day. ‘The department liar arranged to pay all employees going on leave, speh as workshops employees, etc., prior to Christmas.” the Minister replied, "but in the case if employees in the traffic, locomotive, and permanent way branches, who will be working on the days between Christmas and New Year it will not be practicable to make navment before (he due date Payment before Christmas will also be made to relief workers engaged on works under the jurisdiction of the Railway? Department."
