SCORES OF ANIMALS KILLED GAS ESCAPES FROM HEATER v NEW YORK, Dec. 8. (Received Dec. 8, at 11 p.m.) Sleeping gas from a heater killed 64 monkeys, birds, ant-eaters, alligators, tigercats, deer and other animals in the menagerie of an animal importing warehouse. A policeman who smelt the gas summoned rescuers, who revived four alligators, an emu, an ant-eater, a Gibbon ape, two monkeys and three red doves. Thousands of tropical fish were not affected, several large tanks being equipped with compressed air tubes designed to keep the oxygen content of the water normal. The gas was thus unable to penetrate.
