BURNSIDE STOCK SALE

CATTLE NOT UP TO STANDARD FAT CATTLE A yarding of 254 fat cattle was penned for yesterday's Burnside slock market. The quality generally was not up to recent yardings, there being only three to four trucks of goodquality cattle on offer, the balance of the entry being made up of medium weights, with a big proportion of unfinished cows and heifers. The sale opened with a strong demand for goodquality cattle, and these can be quoted at 15s to £1 per head above last week's rates. Medium-quality bullocks did not meet with the same demand, and consequently prices for this class were easier from 10s to 15s on last sale’s rates. Cows and heifers, which were in bigger supply, did not meet with last week's keen competition, with the result that prices were easier by £1 per head. Included in the entry were some good heavy grades of ewes, but the same cannot be said of wethers which were represented by medium to light classes only. The market opened with values for quality wethers showing an appreciation of Is per head, as compared with last week’s average rates but over the concluding stages values receded to last week's parity Best ewes can be quoted firmer by Is, with other grades selling in buyers’ favour to the extent of Is 6d. Over the concluding races ewes of the light description were hard to sell, even at reduced rates. Quotations: Prime heavy wethers, up to 29s 3d: prime, 26s 3d to 28s 3d; medium, 23s to 245; light, from 19s; extra prime heavy ewes, up to 27s 6d; prime heavy, 20s 6d to 23s 3d; medium. 17s 3d to 19s 3d; light and aged, from 10s.
