VISCOUNT TAAFE

ARRIVAL'IN FREE STATE APPLYING FOR CITIZENSHIP DUBLIN, Dec. 6. Viscount Taafe has arrived. He refused to comment on the suggestion that he was Mr de Valera's nominee for the Irish Presidency. He is applying immediately for Free State citizenship and is resigning from the Czechoslovakian army. He said he was not at present petitioning the British Government for restoration of the peerage of which his father was deprived in wartime. A message received on November 5 from Prague stated: Viscount Taafe, a descendant of a noble Welsh family which settled in Ireland in the tenth century and lived in Bohemia for the last 300 years, is returning to Ireland permanently. He fought against the British during the Great War, causing Parliament to abolish his peerage in 1917. He is the only person in the world who holds the secret of the murder of Crown Prince Rudolf of Hapsburg, 1899, confided to him by his father before his-death.
