VICTORIAN CHAMPIONSHIPS DOUBLES HOLDERS DEFEATED MELBOURNE, Dec. 7. The second round of the Victorian lawn tennis championships produced some surprises. The doubles title-holders, Quist and Turnbull, were defeated by two juniors, Gilchrist and Lindo, in five sets. In the womens' singles Miss Stevenson defeated the American, Miss Workman, with the loss of only two .games Misses Workman and Bundy were defeated in the women's doubles by Misses Stevenson and Blick. Budge and Mako (America) and leading Australians won their singles matches comfortably. BUDGE BEATS CRAWFORD MELBOURNE, Dec. 7. (Received Dec. 8, at 1 a.m.) At the Victorian lawn tennis championships in the quarter-finals Budge defeated Crawford 7—5, 6—4, 3_6, B—6; McGrath defeated L. Schwartz 5—7, 6—3, 6—2, 6—3; Quist defeated Hopman B—6. 6—l, c o Misses Wynne, Bundy and Hartigan won their Singles.
