CONTROL OF RAGWORT
SATISFACTORY PROGRESS USE OF .CHEMICAL PRODUCTS (From Our Parliamentary Reporter* WELLINGTON, Dec. 7. " The control of ragwort is fairly satisfactory and with the assistance of county councils very good work has been done," said the Minister of Agriculture (Mr W. Lee Martin) when discussing in the House of Representatives to-night an additional item of £3OOO for sodium chlorate and altacide on the Supplementary Estimates of the Departof Agriculture. The Minister said that there were large areas that had been practically freed from ragwort by the use of sodium chlorate. That method of combating the spread of ragwort was pretty expensive in rough country, but on open land it had been really effective. The department was more than pleased with what had been accomplished.
