MINING PRIVILEGES
HEAVY DAMAGES CLAIMED JUDGMENT FOR DEFENDANTS (Per United Press Association) GREYMOUTH, Dec. 7. Commonly known as the "Hochstetter case," lengthy litigation involving mining privileges located in the Ahaura district, which has on many occasions been proceeded with in the Warden's Court, was again to the fore to-day, when the warden, Mr Raymond Ferner, S.M., gave judgment in favour of the defendants.
The proceedings in the present case were commenced on July 6 last when John Wilson, a miner of Ahaura, aged 83 years, claimed £25,000 damages. The defendants were Sarah Ellen Campbell, widow, of Wellington; Bridget Monica Bayne, widow, of Christchurch; Mrs Theresa Margaret Goldsmith, of Greymouth; Gerald T. Joyce, law clerk, of Greymouth; Thomas Francis Brosnan, solicitor, of Greymouth; and the Golden West Sluicing Company, Ltd.
