PRESBYTERY OF DUNEDIN

MONTHLY MEETING ~ The monthly meeting of the Presbytery of Dunedin was held last night in the First Church... Hall. The moderator (Dr Salmond) presided. The moderator welcomed the Rev. Ken Crump, who is leaving for the New Hebrides to take the place of the Rev. W. B. Milne. Mr Milne, it will be remembered, was killed by a: native some months ago. The moderator also extended a welcome to a number of missionaries and clergymen. STUDENT FOR LICENCE The Rev. J. J. Cairney reported on behalf of the Student Committee, and it was decided to take Mr H.- W. West on trial for licence. The presbytery adjourned to enable the ceremony of licensing Mr West to take place in First Church. The moderator presided STUDENTS FOR TRAINING, The presbytery also decided to accept, Mr H. F. Manson and Mr G. A. Jefferies as students for training in the ministry. . NEW EDITOR OF OUTLOOK The Rev. L. Rogers, the new editoi of the Outlook, gave a brief address He said that he looked on his work as having three important things to accomplish: (1) He believed that the church paper had a very important function to offer in the homes of their people; (2) that the task of the church paper should be to try to draw the church together in close unity; and (3> that the church paper had a great work to do in giving men and women that information which would be an inspiration for them to work for the, Kingdom of God. ST. CLAIR CONGREGATION The Rev. Scott Allen wrote resigning the position of interim moderator of the St. Clair congregation. On the motion of the clerk (the. Rev. J. D. Smith) the resignation was accepted and the Rev. H. A. Mitchell appointed to the position. - •, NEW TESTAMENT STUDIES . It was decided that the induction of the Rev. J. Allan, of Auckland,, as professor of New Testament studies should take place on February 23 in First Church. A GENEROUS RESPONSE The clerk reported that a sum of £1069 17s lid had been subscribed by the churches in the Dunedin Presbytery towards meeting the deficit of £6OOO in the Maori Mission fund. HOME MISSION STATIONS The Rev. J. Gilman Dunn reported on the work being carried out in the Waitati and Sawyers' Bay charges; Dr Hunter on the Gladstone charge; Professor Collie on the South Taieri and Brighton charges, and the Rev. W. W MacArthur on the Otago Peninsula charge. The moderators were thanked for their reports. It was decided, on the motion of Mr J Dick, that the whole question of the Brighton charge be referred to the Presbytery Mission Committee for investigation.
