TROTTING NOTES

By Sentinel

Aqua Bond It is reported that Aqua Bond, was taken over by T. Wallis after the Wairio Trotting Club's meeting.

Gore Trotting Club The Gore Trotting Club's programme has been very liberally patronised by owners, and good fields are assured for each race.

A Possibility Recent affairs in the light-harness world may lead to a big stir-up in the control of the game. Slow Motion

They have some slow-motion races on the West Coast, where the speed rate runs .from 2min 22sec to 2min 27sec over a mile. Questions

It is understood that more questions than one were asked in connection with the running at the New Brighton meeting. iron Duke

The roan gelding Iron Duke, who won a double at tne Wairio Trotting Club's meeting, is a five-year-old by Wellington Direct from Jean Mac, b> Harold Rothschild—Myrtle Bell, bjBellman from a mare by Camel.

Greyhound The height of Greyhound (1.56) is 16.2, his girth 70:;, ana the total weight of his four shoes on the day of nis record about 16oz. In the West Recent winners at Perth' include the Matcnnght gelding Vesuvius, the xiappy voyage maie Homeward, the Sungod gelding Sunny Morn, and the rveai Guy geiaing Wise Guy.

Rich Relations Overtures ot German and Italian sportsmen for the possession ot Rosalind, imin bDisec, witn one offer of 20,000 dollars, have met a .deaf ear. This will come as good news to Mr J. R. McKenzie, owner of U. Scott, a stallion, who has much of the same blood as Rosalind. U. Scott is a coming champion himself, and a promising sire.

Imagination Trotting clubs should delete twomile races from their programme or reduce the stakes when they are practically reduced to a mile. It has been done in connection with racing, and why not with trotting? So-called twomile races too frequently exist only in the imaginations of clubs putting them on a programme.

Wairio Trotting Club The Wairio Trotting Club held a successful meeting on Saturday last, when the attendance was very much larger than that at the inaugural meeting held last year. Aqua Bond won the Wairio Trotting Club Handicap of £35 and a canteen of cutlery valued at £7 7s. Aqua Bond won in 4min 37 3-ssec from Waitemata 4min 37 4-ssec and Drumbunnif 4min 40sec. Ten others also started. The five-year-old roan gelding Iron Duke won the Maiden Stakes in 2min 49sec and the Nightcaps Handicap in 2min 52 l-ssec. Appomatox won the Trial Stakes in 3min 38 2-ssec, Blue Logan the Duncan Handicap in 3min 47 2-ssec, and Fransol won the Wrey's Bush Handicap in 3min 36sec Procedure in Appeal In the case of an appeal to the New Zealand Trotting Association against a decision of a club, the Rules o 1 Trotting include the following:—"A special meeting of the association shall, if the president of the association so directs, be held within 14 days of an appeal being lodged with the association for the purpose of considering the same. . ." This rule is of interest in view of the disqualification of De Soto and his owner and driver last Saturday. The last meeting of the board of the New Zealand Trotting Association was held on Friday, and the next is set dov/n for the first week in February. In the meantime De Soto has been nominated for important events at the Auckland Trotting Club's meeting to be held at Christmas time, and in fairness \ l o all the appeal must be heard before then. Four members constitute a quorum on the Trotting Association, and three are members resident in Christchurch. If the associa-

tion • dismisses the appeal, says the Press, the next move would possibly be to the New Zealand Trotting Conference, and again, in fairness to the parties concerned, quick action is necessary. In such a case it seems the control of trotting affairs is rather an unwieldy business. Members of the board of the New Zealand Trotting Association live in different parts of New Zealand—from Auckland to Invercargill—and travelling expenses are a consideration. The idea suggested some years ago of instituting district committees has in the case under review much to recommend it
