WEST HARBOUR BOROUGH

MONTHLY COUNCIL MEETING The monthly meeting of the West Harbour Borough Council was held last night, and was attended by the Mayor (Mr A. Smith) and Crs T. F. Rodger. J. Robb, J. Coutts. J. L. Page, J. M. Kay, G. Throp, F. H. Hudson, P. H. Davis, and E. T. Monk. FINANCE The Finance Committee reported that receipts amounted to £1049 4s lid, and the debit balance at the "bank on December 1 was £751 12s 2d.—The report was adopted and accounts amounting to £339 18s 3d were passed for payment CORRESPONDENCE A resident of Queen street, ; St. Leonards, requested that a street light should be installed -there.—The Mayor said the council could not afford, at present to agree to the request, which was held over in the meantime. . The Mayor of Dunedin wrote advising that an effort was .being made to raise £IOOO in Dunedin for the Far East Relief Fund, and asking the borough to contribute the sum of fciu. —lt was decided to make a grant of £2 2s The'Commissioner of Transport (Mr G L. Laurenson) wrote advising his intention to recommend to the Minister of Transport (Mr R. Semple) that a speed limit of 30 miles an hour should be declared for the whole of the Port Chalmers - Dunedin highway.—ApPr The "secretary of the Otago Labourers' Union forwarded a copy of an agreement between the union and the Dunedin City Corporation, and asked whether the council was prepared to agree to the terms of this agreement, or if it wished to meet representatives of the union to discuss the matter.— It was decided to refer the borough s position to the Conciliation Council. INSPECTOR'S REPORT The inspector (Mr W. Connor) reported that the following work had been done during the past month:— Patching the Main road from Port Chalmers to Logan Point, metalling at St. Leonards. Burkes, and Roseneath: cleaning footpaths and water tables at Sawyers' Bay, St. Leonards, and Ravensbourne, and cutting grass. The Main road footpaths reauired patching, and other works remaining were the building of concrete walls at Moller Park and on the Main road at St. Leonards; tar sealing of footpaths, drainage work at Ascog road. Maia;, alterations to the Fire Brigade Station, and the completion of Moller Park entrance. The work at Manuku street remained to be completed. The report was adopted. SEASON'S GREETINGS
