POLAR OBSERVERS

THE RUSSIAN SCIENTISTS POSITION REPORTED . - , LONDON, Dec. 2. (Received Dec. 3, at 1.30 a.m.) • The Times Riga correspondent says the Russian polar observers report their position as latitude 82deg. 30 min north, longitude 6deg. east, over 500 miles from the Pole. They are drifting towards Prince Christian Land, the north-eastern extremity of Greenland, and expect to drift south parallel to the coast of Greenland They hope the conditions will allow them to remain until May 21 when they will have completed a year on the floe. They say the triangular floe on which they a;re camped is over two miles long even after a recent split, and one-tenth the size would be enough. They are regularly measuring the depths taking temperatures, sampling the water and taking electric magnetic and other observations. The depth of the ocean for several months has remained more or less constant at two miles. Moscow is not anxious about the party and expects the.scientists will be removed from thll Jfoe before March, Aoril or May «''cording to the conditions.
