“A wandering horse is rarely seen in the heart of the city nowadays. There is no grass in our streets, so he must have come in to see the sights,” remarked Mr C. R. She had had to pay £1 for poundage fees in order to recover the steed. The magistrate evidently agreed that the pound for poundage was an adequate reminder of a horse owner’s responsibilities- in the circumstances, and he convicted and discharged the defendant.
