The roll call, “A reading on incidents in the life of Mrs Russell Jackson ” was given by Miss Bfown. The motto was “Friendship is a union of spirits, a marriage of hearts, and the bond thereof virtue.” Mrs Mason, from Green Island Institute, gave a quilting demonstration. When the Waitahuna Institute met the president (Mrs Labes) was in the chair. The roll call was “If not yourself, who would you like to be? a delightful demonstration of a craft-wood-fibre flowers—was .given by Mrs Varcoe, of Lawrence. An interesting report of the Mid-Otago Federation s Conference at Middlemarch was given by the delegate, Mrs J. Walker. During the social half-hour items were rendered by Miss Rowe (recitation) and Miss G. Crozier (song). Results of the competitions were as follows: “ Cream Puffs ’’—Senior, Mrs Don Auld 1, Mrs J. At the Karitane Institute meeting this month Mrs Taiaroa presided. The South Hill Institute meeting took the form of a social afternoon. Mrs Ericson presided. The roll call was, “ Should husbands help in the house? ’’ Mrs McKenzie conducted several amusing competitions, the winners being Mesdames McStay and Familton. Mrs Geen gave a humorous reading, Mrs Familton a recitation and two songs, and Mrs Ericson a reading.' At the meeting of the Teschemaker Institute Mrs J. Gregan took the chair in the absence of the president (Mrs H Miles). Her impressions on a visit to Great Britain and the places she had included in her itinerary, including Stratford-on-Avon, the birthplace of Shakespeare, were vividly described by Miss Bayliss. Competitions for the month resulted: —“ Folded table napkin” —Miss McFarlane 1, Mrs Horsburgh 2, Mrs O’Connell 3; Best bloom ” —Mrs Powell 1, Miss McFarlane 2, Mrs Horsburgh 3; “ Meat shape ’ —Mrs Keown 1. The hostesses were Mesdames Keown and Gregan.
