ACCLIMATISATION SOCIETY

MONTHLY COUNCIL MEETING The monthly meeting of the council of the Otago Acclimatisation Society was held last night, the president (Mr C. A. Wilson) occupying the chair. GAME COMMITTEE The Game Committee recommended in its report that the secretary should write to the Tomahawk Boating Club asking it to do what it could to see that the young swans on the lagoon were not interfered with. The North Canterbury Acclimatisation Society wrote suggesting that the South Island Council should meet at Christchurch on December 3. —The date was approved, and the president and Mr H. G. Williams were appointed to attend the conference. The secretary of the Waitaki Acclimatisation Society wrote asking if the society could supply any blue opossums for liberation in the district. The secretary of the Westland Acclimatisation Society wrote ordering for next season up to 50 pair of quail, h available. —Both orders were noted, and the report was adopted. ANGLING COMMITTEE The Angling Committee reported as follows: — The district engineer, Public Works Department, Dunedin, wrote saying th. road to Poolburn was satisfactory for departmental purposes, and suggesting that the society should take up the matter with the Tourist Department.—Received. The secretary of the Otago Anglers' Association wrote asking that the question of fishing in Sullivan's dam should be reopened, and also made apolication for medals for a bare fly competition.—The medals were agreed to, and it was decided to reply that there was no chance of the dam being reopened at present. The city electrical engineer. Dunedin, wrote expressing regret that the recmest that anglers should be allowed to smoke while fish ins on Lake ~/Tahinerangi, or alongside the shore, could not be acceded to. — Received. The report was adopted.
