WOMEN'S DIVISION N.Z. FARMERS' UNION

Reports of meetings of branches are requested but they should be furnished promptly for the publication of reports that are not supplied within a week from the date of the meeting cannot be promised.

The Palmerston branch of the W.D.F.U. held its last meeting for the year on Friday last. On behalf of the members, Mrs Ross (president) presented Mrs J. Sutherland, who is leaving the district, with a bedroom clock as a token of appreciation. The programme for the evening was arranged by Misses Ballingall, Challis, and Thompson. Members of the Farmers' Union joined the ladies in progressive euchre, the prize-winners being Mesdames Collins and Keats and Messrs Wedge and Clearwater. Two competitions were won by Miss Ballingall and Mr Thompson.

The Airedale - Rosebery branch meeting was presided over by Mrs Kirkpatrick. The roll call was "A Christmas Recipe.'" Mrs Neill was in charge of the social part of the afternoon, which took the form of an interesting competition, the winners being Mesdames Mavor and Ballantyne. The competitions resulted as follows:—Baking, chocolate cream sponge, Mesdames Poison and Roberts and Miss I. Hastings (equal) 1. Mrs W. Kirkpatrick 4; vase of poppies, Mrs Buick 1, Mrs Robertson 2; and sewing. Mesdames Kirkpatrick and Roberts (equal) 1. Miss I. Hastings 3. Hostesses were Mesdames Roberts and Robb.

Mrs H. B. S. Johnstone presided at the November meeting of the Otaio branch. A demonstration of decorative work was given by Mrs Coventrv, of Waimate. Competitions, for which prizes were given bv Mrs Mcllwrick, were won by Mrs East and Miss M. Hall. Those who were placed first in other competitions were Mrs East, Miss J. Fenwick, Miss M. Brunton and Miss F. Dron. The second prize winners were Mrs Bowie and Miss M. Brunton. The hostesses were Mrs Bowie and Miss J. Fenwick.
