The Eveline Women's Institute met on Thursday. Mrs Kilgour presided. The motto was, "You cannot bring sunshine into the lives of others without getting some yourself," and the roll call. " Why I Joined the Institute." An interesting demonstration on "Home Dressmaking" was given by Mrs McLeod. Members were urged to interest themselves in the " hospitality scheme." which was meeting with great success in other centres. Competitions held resulted as follows:—New potatoes, Mrs Melton 1. Mrs Moffat 2rose blooms. Miss Hartly 1, Mrs Denison 2, Mrs Kilgour 3

The Waiareka Institute celebrated its third birthday on Saturday, the function taking the form of a picnic, which was held on Mr W. Ravne's property on the bank of the Kakanui River. The outing was enjoyed by the large number attending the picnic, including the children, who were usually entertained separately in other years. The children were present in large numbers, and were given an enjoyable day's fun. There was a good representation of visitors from other institutes —Kakanui, Awamoa-Alma, Waianakarua, South Hill, and Eveline—who extended birthday greetings to Waiareka.

One of the features of the November meeting of the Waihao Downs Institute was a demonstration of Italian quilting by Mrs H. Green. The members decided to form a Drama Club, and Mrs J. G. Millar was appointed delegate to a meeting to be held at Waimate. The monthly competitions resulted:—Posy: Mesdames S. Preece and J. G. Millar (equal) 1, Mrs W. Mewburn 3. Specimen bloom: Mrs J. Cromie and Miss P. Batchelor (equal) 1. Mrs J. G. Millar 3. The hostesses were Mrs W. Allen and Miss B. Sheddon Mrs H- Green was in the chair.
