ST. KILDA COUNCIL
FORTNIGHTLY MEETING The fortnightly meeting of the St. Kilda Borough Council was held last night, and was attended by the Mayor (Mr J. J. Marlow) and Crs J. Glue, J. H. Hinton, R. S. Brent, T. D. B. Roy, N. D. Anderson, J. Cherry, W. Lovell and W. Rutherford. FINANCIAL The bank balance showed a credit of £541 Is Bd. The receipts since last meeting amounted to £3lB Is 9d. Accounts amounting to £203 14s lOd were passed' for payment. WATER CONSUMPTION The inspector reported that the consumption of water for the first week since the last meeting was 1,703,000 gallons (cost £42 lis 6d) and for the second week 1,864,000 gallons (cost £46 12s), a total of 3,567,000 gallons at a cost of £9B 12s.—The report was adopted. DRIVERS' LICENCES The traffic inspector reported that 10 drivers' licences had been issued and three drivers tested. Two building permits had been issued. — The report was adopted. WORK FOR ANOTHER 12 MEN Mr H. W. Chambers (the district employment officer) wrote stating that the council was authorised to continue the employment of men at present engaged en works covered by authority until January 29, 1938, notwithstanding that the period might expire prior to that date. Mr Chambers asked if the council would review all jobs authorised under the scheme and advise at an early date whether the schedule of works already approved would provide employment for the men at present engaged until the date stipulated. Should it be necessary to provide additional works applications should le submitted regarding any further full-time works which might be undertaken under the scheme. If it was found >.hat further employment for the men concerned was not available until January 29, arrangements would be made to transfer them to other approved works. The Mayor said that they had made application for 12 additional men They were already employing 12 men under the Labour Department.
