A very interesting record of past events in the Wellington province (says the Wanganui Chronicle) is contained in a bound volume of the Government's Provincial Gazette of 1861, which has been preserved by Mr F. H. Jones. Makirikiri. It is printed on blue paper, and is properly indexed. The collection of Customs revenue is interesting. Mr Charles Sharp was the collector at Wanganui in the year in question, and in a return for March, 1861, it is shown that he collected £6Bl 16s 9d. The expenses of running the office were deducted from that amount —salaries. £34 8s 4d, rent of office for one quarter £ll ss, incidentals £2 4s Bd. The balance (£570 18s 9d) was remitted to the collector at Wellington.
