THE NEW CABINET
ANNOUNCED BY MR LYONS MR THORBY TAKES DEFENCE MEMBERS SWORN IN (United Press Association) (By Electric Telegraph-Copyright) CANBERRA, Nov. 29. (Received Nov. 30, at 0.25 a.m.) The Prime Minister announced the new Commonwealth Ministry, which was sworn in this evening, as follows: Prime Minister, Mr J. A. Lyons. Minister for Commerce and Health, Dr Earle Page. Attorney-general and Minister for Industry, Mr Robert G. Menzies. Minister of External Affairs and Vice-president of the Executive Council, and Minister for Territories, Mr W. M. Hughes. Treasurer and Minister in Charge of Development. Mr Richard G. Casey. _ T Minister for Customs, Mr T. W. White. Minister for Defence, Mr H. V. Thorby. Postmaster-general and Leader of the Government in the Senate, Senator A. J. McLachlan. Minister for the Interior, Mr John McEwen. Minister for Repatriation, Senator H. S. Foil Assistant Minister for Commerce, Mr A. G. Cameron; Second Assistant Minister for Commerce. Senator A. N. Macdonald. .. Assistant Minister to the Treasury, Mr V. C. Thompson. Assistant Minister for Customs, Mr J A. Perkins.
The new Cabinet is regarded as being strong and representative of all parties and States. The major portfolios have been retained by most of the original Ministers, with the exception that Defence will tn future be handled by the Country Party member, Mr Thorby, who was a former Minister in the New South Wales Legislature, and is held in high esteem.
