SOLDIER SETTLERS
POOR STANDARD OF LIVING GRAVE COMPLAINT VOICED (Per United Press Association) INVERCARGILL, Nov. 19. At a meeting of returned soldier settlers in Invercargill to-day some of those present said that the standard of living of the soldier settlers was lower than that of any other men in the country. “ Not only is the returned man suffering but his wife and children are suffering also and we should do something to alter these conditions,” said one speaker. “A man should be able to make enough out of his farm without his wife having to be a slave as she very often is now. It is time something was done in the matter.” It was unanimously decided to forward a recommendation to the Dominion Council of the New Zealand Returned Soldiers’ Association that the Government be asked to consider the granted to each soldier settler of a subsidy on his production. This, it was stated, would provide compensation for granting to each soldier settler of a sub* fering because of their war servic# and would also tend to promote greater efficiency on the farms. ,
