REDUCTION OF FATALITIES EFFECTIVENESS OF CAMPAIGN (Per United Press Association) WELLINGTON. Nov. 19. The latest figures for the road fatalities for the 14 months which have elapsed since the new road safety policy was commenced in September. 1936. show that there have been 235 deaths, compared with 265 for the preceding 14 months. There has been a reduction of 30 in the number of deaths over these periods, in spite of a substantia] increase in the volume of road traffic. “ These facts,” said the Minister of Transport (Mr R. Semple), in the course of a statement to-day. “ provide convincing proof of the effectiveness of the road-safety campaign. Most of the new proposals will*take some time to become fully operative, but it is gratifying that good resultu have already been ohown.”
