Form 17A, obtainable at principal Post Offices) will be received up till Noon on DECEMBER 15, 1937, for the following positions in the Education Department:— (a) INSPECTOR (woman) OF HOME SCIENCE, WELLINGTON. The position will be graded in the Professional Division. Commencing salary according to qualifications and experience; maximum £540 p.a. The duties to be performed will be those of a staff inspector of the Education Department with particular reference to Home Science and Home Arts in all types of schools. Applicants should possess of a degree or diploma in Home Science and should nave had good teaching experience in various types of schools. Applicants must be of good physique and be prepared to travel wherever required in the Dominion. (b) SUPERVISOR (woman) OF DOMESTIC SUBJECTS, WELLINGTON. The position will be graded in the Professional Division. Commencing salary according to qualifications and experience; maximum £425 p.a. The person appointed will work in close collaboration with the Inspector of Home Science and will be required to demonstrate teaching methods, particularly in connection with dressmaking. needlework, and home crafts, to advise and help teachers of domestic arts in all types of schools, and generally to assist in the work of the Department in connection with the teaching of domestic arts and science. In addition to, a good general education, applicants should have had good teaching experience and some trade training. Applicants must be of good physique and be prepared to travel wherever required in the Dominion. (c) ADVISER (woman) TO INFANT DEPARTMENTS AND KINDERGARTEN SCHOOLS (3 vacancies). Location: Probably Auckland, Wellington, and Christchurch. The positions will be graded in the Professional Division. Commencing salary according to qualifications and experience; maximum £490 p.a. CHILD WELFARE OFFICER (male); commencing salary will be £315 p.a. It is desired that applicants should be possessed of good educational attainments and have had experience in social work among boys; teaching experience will be regarded as an additional qualification. The successful applicant may be required to take up a position at any centre in New Zealand, but on appointment would probably be stationed at one.of the four main centres. Duties include investigation of cases of children and youths coming before the Courts; supervision of boys in their own homes; placement of boys and State Wards in situations where necessary, and their subsequent supervision. The appointee should have organising ability and be prepared to undertake general social constructive work among youth of the community as well as to study social welfare literature and allied legislation. The appointment will be subject to the provisions of the various Acts and Regulations affecting the Public Service. The successful applicant will require to bear any expense incurred in travelling to take up appointment. Salary £75 per annum, with lodging allowance at the rale of £4O per annum if required to reside away from home during the period of training (two years). On qualifying, salary will be increased to £195 per annum, rising by annual increments to £225 per annum. Appointees will be required to enter into an agreement to serve for at least 5 years from the date of appointment. It is desired that applicants should be not less than 18, nor more than 25 years of age, and be of strong physique. The standard of education should be not lower than the School Certificate or University Entrance Examination (Matriculation). Applications are required to be accompanied by a special dental report on Form A, which, together with further particulars. may be obtained on application.
