HOIS II ADVANCE -the dmmdaMUy and Economy H y mr MORRIS CAR 9 S> V ! m W& $ YOU CAN DEPEND on long life, running economy and freedom from trouble in the Morris car, because these qualities are not merely claimed but are proved in advance . Like every phase of Morris manufacture, Testing is a specialised activity conducted by highly skilled experts. These specialists put every part through a “third degree” to ensure that the car you buy is not only a wonderful performer, but a stayer , too .... Now let us glance over a few photographs taken in the Morris Works, and see some of the testing operations* THE WEATHER MACHINE Specimens of paint, robber and external materials are sprayed with water and “ grilled ” in a heat equal to the strongest sunlight. In a fortnight these parts receive a test equal to two pears’ exposure to the worst weather. m m m m m m m m i m m. m V Vi& DIAMONDS USED FOR TESTING CINE CAMERA AIDS RESEARCH The eye cannot see what is happening to the rapidly moving parts of aa engine—but the movie camera can. Here we sec a modern, high-speed camera making a photographic record. Later the film can be examined and analysed by experts at leisure. This machine forces a pointed diamond into the part undetf test. Deep impressions indicate soft material,,light impressions indicate hard material, the result being measured on a high power microscope. Only perfect examples pas* this searching, examination by Morris inspecloro. BALANCING BY SPARKS This elaborate electrical device Ls used for balancing crankshafts. If a crankshaft is out of balance the machine shows exactly where. Jr 200 BUMPS A MINUTE By means of this machine, tyres, wheels and springs are subjected to bomps of any rcqnired severity and period. The Morris owner «aa depend on any equipment which outlives this treatment. ■m wm i sag /■ A SCREW THREADS INSPECTED The projector shows a greatly magnified image of screw threads where any minute departure from correctness is immediately detected by comparison with a standard image. B CATHODE RAY TEST What is happening inside the engine ?—Engineers always want to know that. This apparatus shows the actual pressure variations of the burning gases in the cylinder, even when the engine is running at full speed. C “SEEING” STEEL BY LIGHT The steeloscope determines the exact composition of steels. The operator can tell by what he observes of the effect of an electric arc on the part under test, exactly the composition of the steel. TESTING TEMPERATURES This thermo-couple enables a tester to check the temperatures at six points in an engine at the same time. AND THE FINAL TESTS-ON THE ROAD Apart from factory tests, Morris cars are tested on the worst roads and under the worst conditions that can be found. In the burning deserts and stony wastes of North Africa; in snow and ice; over mountain passes and primitive tracks; on every kind of road. No Morris car* is allowed to go on the market until its designers are satisfied that it will give you, its owner , lasting pleasure, with economy of operation and the lowest possible maintenance cost. j ' ■ , Vm centainLf can depend on Wm MORRIS Otago Distributors s HISLOP 8 GIBSON LTD, Associate Dealer: Reilly’s Central Parking Station, Dunedin.
