RANFURLY Cricket Weather conditions were ideal on Saturday for a continuation of the Maniototo Cricket Sub-association’s matches. Bright sunshine prevailed, with very little wind. All the matches provided close finishes. By defeating Patearoa B, Oturehua (the challengers) took home the Greer Cup. The best scores of the day were recorded by J. Lynch (Ranfurly) 85 not out and E. Blakely (Patearoa A) 73. Patearoa A 183 defeated Ranfurly 169. For Patearoa A. E. Blakely 73, A. Thurlow 27. McAtamney 14, F. Greer 11, and J. Blakely 11 batted well, and the bowling honours went to J. Blakely (five for 71), McAtamney (three for 42). and A. Thurlow (two for 39). Batting for Ranfurly, J. Lynch 85 not out, A. Murray 31, and Hanrahan 14 were the chief scorers, while J. Mulholland (six for 42) and G. Miller (two for 21) bowled well. Naseby 95 defeated Cambrian 45 in a low-scoring match. For Naseby, C. Moore 29. L. Smith 19, and V. Dixon 18 were the principal scorers, and the bowling honours went to L. Smith (five for 24). W. Barr (three for 14), and K. Marslin (two for six). For Cambrians. D. Maori Raid Centenary A meeting of the Tuturau Maori Raid Centenary Committee was held at Mataura on Tuesday evening to finalise arrangements for the celebrations to be held on Saturday. December 4: Mr J. Buchanan presided, and there was a large attendance. Intimations of acceptance of the committee's invitations to the celebrations were received from the Gore, Bluff, and Riverton Borough Councils, Mr T. F Doyle, M.L.C., and Mr John Topi Paluki (Kuapuki). The Minister in Charge of Native Affairs (Mr M. J. Savage) wrote advising that the necessary legislation vesting the Tuturau Reserve with the Mataura Borough Council had been drafted and would be included in the Native Purposes Bill, which was to be introduced this session. Advice was received that Mrs R. Waitiri, of Bluff, the only granddaughter of Chief Tapi, who participated m the attack on the northern Maoris led by Te Puoho. had generously offered a valuable Maori mat for presentation by the committee.
