ROAD WORKER’S DEATH ' (Per United Press Association) ' WANGANUI, Nov. 18. William Henry Barry, between 45 and 50 years of age, died this morning as the result <of injuries which he received while working on the Parapara road. There were no eye-wit-nesses of the accident, but it is believed that Barry fell over a bank, walked a short distance and then collapsed on the road. He was carried to a nearby building and expired before a doctor arrived.

A MOTOR CRASH TWO OCCUPANTS SEVERELY INJURED <Pek United Press Association) NEW PLYMOUTH, Nov. 18. Severe injuries were suffered by George Duke, aged 24, and Lewis Blakely, aged 20, when a car driven by Duke crashed into a pile of timber beside the road, smashed a telegraph pole, and ended up badly wrecked half a chain away. The accident occurred half a mile from Puniho at 12.30 this morning. A third occupant of the car, Allan Bailey, escaped with minor abrasions. Duke suffered skull injuries and shock, and Blakely a fractured thigh. The car turned a double somersault, the left side and the hood being torn off. PEDESTRIAN KILLED STRUCK BY SKIDDING MOTOR CAR (Per United Press Association) WELLINGTON. Nov. 18. Struck by a motor car which skidded on a wet road and mounted the footpath along which he was walking in Miramar, Samuel Thompson, aged about 35, received injuries from which he died within a few minutes. The deceased came to Wellington about a year ago. LITTLE GIRL DROWNED (Per United Press Association) WELLINGTON. Nov. 18. Judith Chapman, of Wellington, aged about seven years, was accidentally drowned at Day’s Bay this afternoon. The child, who was attending the school picnic of St. Mary’s Convent, apparently fell while paddling near the wharf with her playmates. Although the custodian at Williams Park applied artificial respiration until a doctor arrived. the child did not recover. SHOOTING FATALITY GUN ACCIDENTALLY DISCHARGED While shooting near the Te Ngawal traffic bridge, about five miles above Pleasant Point, on Wednesday, William Rose, aged 19, was accidentally shot and died in the Timaru Public Hospital yesterday morning. Rose, who was armed with a rifle, was accompanied by his brother, who had a shotgun, and when the brother was reloading the charge exploded, and Rose, who was standing about two feet away, received the full charge of shot in the abdomen. As medical aid was not immediately available at Pleasant Point he had to be conveyed to Timaru. An’ inquest will be held.
