EARTHQUAKE SHOCKS
CENTRED IN HAWKE'S BAY NO SERIOUS DAMAGE REPORTED (Per United Press Association) WELLINGTON, Nov. 16. Centred in the southern part of Hawke'a Bay, an earthquake which occurred shortly before 2.30 yesterday afternoon was felt right across the North Island as far west as Wanganui. At Waipawa and Hastings the intensity on the Rossi-Forel scale was estimated at six. Napier felt the tremor rather less severely, and Taihape and Wanganui considerably less. In Hawke's Bay the shake was rather alarming, but practically no damage appears to have been done beyond the cracking of some chimneys. At 4.20 this morning a shake of lesser intensity took place in the same area.
