CATHEDRAL FOR WELLINGTON

CHANGE OF SITE APPROVED ERECTION IN NORTH END (Per United Press Association) WELLINGTON, Nov. 16. Without a single dissentient voice, a meeting of contributors to the original fund to build an Anglican cathedral in Wellington on the site of St. Mark's Church to-day approved the scheme to apply the fund to the building of the cathedral on the Molesworth—Hill street site at the northern end of the city. Sir George Shirtcliffe was chairman. Mr E. F. Hadfleld, solicitor to the Wellington Diocesan Board of Trustees, said that all the original subscribers had been circularised in order to give any who so desired the opportunity of expressing their objections to the proposed scheme or demanding to have their money refunded or diverted. He read a document setting out the full history of the cathedral scheme and the present proposals. The meeting then passed a resolution approving of this statement of facts and the scheme, and authorised the Diocesan Board of Trustees to set their seal to the document, to have it approved by the Attorney-general, and to file it in the Supreme Court. The resolution was passed unanimously None of the few subscribers who attended offered any objections or even took advantage of the opportunity given them to discuss the resolution. It is understood that when this resolution has been approved by the Attorney-general and filed with the court, the necessary formalities for diverting the money to the erection of the cathedral on the northern site will be complete, and, the land having been acquired, there will be no further obstacle other than the raising of funds to hinder the progress of the scheme. The next consideration will be approval of the architect's designs for the actual building.
