ALLOCATION OF PREFERENCES MINISTER DEFEATED LABOUR RECAPTURES GWYDIR (United Press Association) (By Electric Telegraph—Copyright) SYDNEY, Nov. 3. Received Nov. 3, at 11.55 p.m.) The Minister of Defence (Sir Archdale Parkhill) to-day lost the Warringah seat to his unofficial United Australia Party opponent, Mr P. C. Spender, K.C., by 2308 votes. As an example of how the preferences of the other two candidates went Mr Spender obtained no fewer than 9020 of the Labour candidate's 9711 preferences, and in the allocation of the preferences of both the Labour and Indepndent candidates Mr Spender received 14,124, compared with Sir Archdale Parkhill's 2570. The outcome of this contest was awaited with the keenest interest throughout AusThe Gwydir seat has been recaptured by the Labour candidate, Mr W. Scully, from the Country Party candidate, Mr E. Bachelor, by 2461 votes. _ Mr Corser retained the Wide Bay seat in Queensland by 536 over the social credit nominee, Mr G. ■Nicholas.
