RISE IN CATTLE PRICES FAT CATTLE A small entry for yesterday's sale numbered 205. - This included two trucks of extra prime bullocks from the north, but the bulk of the entry comprised medium quality bullocks, with the usual percentage of cows and heifers. On account of the short supply, there was a general improvement in values. The sale opened with good competition at prices showing an appreciation of from 15s to 20s in excess of the previous market for all classes, and continued on this basis until near the conclusion, when an easing tendency was noticeable. FAT SHEEP The entry in this section numbered 1496 wethers being in the majority The bulk of these were shorn, and included a few consignments of choice heavy grades The ewes forward were mostly of medium descriptions, with not many shorn sheep. Butchers •hroughout the sale showed a preierence for sheep out of the wool. The sale opened with values for shorn ewes and wethers slightly easier, while woolly sheep showed a depreciation of Is to 2s per head. As the sale progressed, the marked showed a further drop and over the final races, sales were difficult to effect, and passings

were frequent. At this stage shorn wethers had declined about 2s per head on opening prices, and all woolly sheep were from Is to Is 6d easier on opening rates.
