HIS MAJESTY'S THEATRE

THE MONTAGUE SHOW Another presentation of the Montague Vaudeville Company's entertaining revue, "Let's Go Places," was given last evening, when, as has been the case since the Dunedin season opened, His Majesty's Theatre was well filled by an audience which enjoyed to the full the fare offered. Although it includes several well-known American and Continental artists, the company is primarily an English one, and it therefore seems eminently fitting that the lead should be a comedian of the calibre of Mr George JDoonan, who ranks high among the star performers on the vaudeville stage in the Old Country. The revue has been cleverly arranged as a pleasure cruise, and as the voyage progresses the audience is treated to a delightful potpourri of melody, dance, and comedy, the various acts being skilfully fitted in as the vessel travels from port to port. Along with Mr Ben Warriss and Miss Catherine Stewart, Mr Doonan keeps the ball of fun rolling merrily, while some sparkling and novel interludes are provided, notably by the Darmora troupe of Hungarian dancers, who backed by lavish settings, present several intriguing dance numbers of a standard that has rarely been previously witnessed on the Dunedin stage. Some attractive part singing is the offering of The Blenders, an American quartet party, and the Dawn Sisters, a versatile and accomplished comedy duo, are responsible for some sparkling and clever nonsense, their burlesque of classical dancing being one of the best things on the programme. The scenes in the second half are laid in the East, the ballets and specialty dances being arranged to harmonise with the setting. One of the outstanding performers in this series is Miss Alma Mackie, who will be remembered by Dunedin audiences as a dancer of more than ordinary ability. As vaudeville of a particularly attractive type, the Montague Show should appeal to everyone who enjoys bright comedy and incidental dancing and music, staged in bright and spectacular settings. " Let's Go Places ' will be presented again to-morrow evening, and on Saturday there will be a complete change of programme. The box plans are at the D.I.C.

"THIS YEAE OF CARNIVAL" The second offering by the Montague Company, "This Year of Carnival,' will be presented next Saturday. On his last tour abroad Sir Benjamin Fuller witnessed this magnificent entertainment at the Drury Lane Theatre and it was then he arranged with MiBertram Montague to bring the entire company, including the principal comedian. Mr George Doonan, and the Darmora Troupe of Dancers, to play at his theatres throughout Australia and the Dominion. "This Year of Carnival" takes the audience through' a series of carnival presentations commencing with "The Carnival of Chess." Then follow "Carnival in Spain," " The Rose Carnival," and " Carnival on the Mediterranean." All these big production scenes are of a different nature to anything ever presented in the Dominion. This is a complete change of programme and every act will be seen in entirely new specialties.
