Assisted Migrants
During the year ended March 31 last 11 migrants (says our parliamentary reporter) received assisted passages to New Zealand, states the annual report of the Department of Labour, which was tabled in the House of Representatives to-day. No assisted passages were granted in the previous year. The report adds that during the past year interest in migration was intensified in New Zealand and in other parts of the Empire. Model Aeroplane Testt The construction of model aeroplanes equipped with petrol engines is a hobby that is becoming popular in Dunedin. Last week several members of the Otago Model Engineering Society carried out a test flight of a petrol model aeroplane constructed by Mr J. Welsh, a member of the society. The machine, a 64-inch high-wing monoplane, is powered by a one-sixth horse-power rotary valve two-stroke engine, and weighs just on 31b. The plane took off beautifully, with oneeighth of an ounce of petrol in the tank, and cruised round the vicinity of Chisholm Park for six minutes. The engine and plane performed perfectly throughout the flight, and, having run out of petrol, the machine made a perfect landing. At some future date further tests are to be carried out on full throttle with this and another plane of 76-inch wing span and a larger engine.
