An order issued in Budapest compels house owners to spring-clean their lofts and garrets. All inflammable materials must be removed from the lofts and the cellars cleared of rubbish. Paper and cloth may not be kept in a loft unless in fireproof boxes. Any citizen failing to comply with this order by the last day of July will be find £3O. This order has already been carried out in some parts of the provinces, where the peasants habitually store dried vegetables and even hay in the lofts, and here the fine for non-compli-ance with the order is reduced to £ 10.
