YACHTING AFFAIRS

MEETING OF ASSOCIATION A meeting of the Otago Yacht and Motor Boat Association was held last night, the president (Mr J. D. Cameron) occupying the chair. The following delegates were present:—Messrs F. Percy, G. King, W. H. Sell. C. Smith, F. C. Henderson, F. T. Partel, W. G. Hewitt, F. C. Brown. J. Kewish and A. Robb.

A motion of sympathy was carried with Mr J. W. Thomson, of Stewart Island, in the death of his wife. Mr Thomson was one of the first to be associated with the Sanders Cud contest at Stewart Island. SANDERS CUP

The skippers of the 14-footers engaged in the Sanders Cup trials were present at the meeting, the president explaining to them the rules under which the trials would be run, and the manner of selection of boat and and crew. '

Mr C. Pettit, on behalf of the skippers, suggested that, instead of picking the crew of the winning boat, the skipper be allowed, with, say, two members of the association, to choose what crew he wanted. He also asked that the first trial be postponed for one week, as some of the boats were not ready for racing. The chairman stated that any postponement would cause a disruption of the racing syllabus. Various matters pertaining to the trials were fully discussed, each skipper undertaking to hand his boat over to the association in the event of it being chosen to represent the province.

Later in the meeting the questions raised were further considered, and it was decided to postpone the first Sanders Cup trial until November 13. In connection with the selection of the representative crew it was decided that if the skipper and crew of the winning boat were in agreement, a change could be made in the crew if it was thought desirable. GENERAL

Mr L. H. Butler advised that he had become part owner of the Idle Along class boat Rio Rita, which war formerly owned by Mr C. Burnett. The name had been altered to Melodv. and il was desired that a new number be granted her.—The matter was left in the hands of the secretary. The racing syllabus for the season as submitted by a special committee set up for the purpose was approved.
