(United Press Association) (By Electric Telegraph—Copyright) MELBOURNE, Oct. 26 At Caulfield the steeplechase grass conditions were excellent. John Wilkes did a mile in lmin 41£sec. only a-quarter of a second outside Palfresco's course record. Mr Alan Cooper, owner of Talking, is reported to have offered 6000 guineas for John Wilkes. Dark Sky, who impressed, easily beat Beechwood, covering seven furlongs in lmin 27iisec. the best for some years. Ajax beat The Chanter over nine furlongs in lmin 58sec and finished well. Sir Regent and Prince Quex went a mile in lmin 44sec. Sir Regent travelled freely and pulled up well. Red Manfred did four furlongs in 50isGC Winbyie did the best, four in 49sec. Pamelus did an excellent seven furlongs in lmin 29sec. Blackmail moved freely, doing six furlongs in lmin 27soc. Beaufrerc went four furlongs in 50scc Wotan was not extended over a mile on the tan in lmin 58scc He is very fit.
