CROMWELL

Bowling The Cromwell Bowling Club held its official opening on Saturday, when there was present a large gathering of players from adjoining clubs, and members of the public. The weather was ideal, and the green was in excellent playing order. The president (Mr A. Stephens) welcomed the visitors, and expressed the wish that the club would have a prosperous and enjoyable season. He then declared the green open for play, and Mrs Stephens rolled the first bowl, after which an afternoon's play was enjoyed. Swimming Club The annual meeting of the Cromwell Swimming Club was held on Thursday evening, when the president (Mr A. Eell) presided over a record attendance of members. The following officers were elected for the ensuing year:— President. Mr A. Bell; senior vice-presi-dent, Mr J. R. Munro; vice-presi-dents —Messrs C, Betts, C. Cummings. W. Hotop, J. Hosking, ft. McCulloch, and A. B. Cottel; secretary and treasurer, Mr D. Elder; committee—Mrs A. W. Johnson. Misses Blackie and Benzoni, and Messrs Rae, McCulloch. Byrnes, Cummings; auditor, Mr E. Jolly; handicappers, Messrs J. R. Munro and C. L. Betts. The opening day was fixed for October 30, and it was decided that all subscriptions be paid by November 14. A sub-committee consisting of Mrs Johnson and Messrs McCulloch, Cummings, and C. Betts, was appointed to discuss ways and means of raising funds for the establishment of a pumping plant.
