ACCLIMATISATION SOCIETY

MONTHLY COUNCIL MEETING The monthly meeting of the council of the Otago Acclimatisation Society was held last night, the president, Mr C. A. Wilson, occupying the chair RANGERS APPOINTED The Department of Internal Affairs forwarded warrants of appointment as rangers, under the Animals Protection Act. of Messrs Ronald Viney, Cromwell; Percy Woolridge, Oturehua; Eustace Frank Allen. Roxburgh; and Douglas C. Todd. Gore.—Received. GAME LICENCES On the recommendation of the Game Committee, it was decided that for the next game shooting season licences should not be interchangeable with those of any other society. PHEASANT COMMITTEE The Pheasant Committee reported that two incubators had been ordered for the hatchery, and also several loads of Silverstream gravel. It was recommended that a 400-gallon galvanised iron tank should be ordered, and that a notice should be put up at the entrance to the hatchery grounds giving the visiting hours as from 1 to 4 p.m., and warning visitors that dogs were not allowed on the property. It was also recommended that some young black swan should be procured to put on the Tomahawk Lagoon to help to keep down the weed, and that the matter would be left in the hands of Messrs Aburn. Fountain. Maconie and the ranger. FIRE DANGER

The city electrical engineer (Mr M. C. Henderson) wrote asking that anglers fishing in the lake at Waipori should be careful to prevent the possibility of fires damaging the plantations in the district. He also advised that smoking was prohibited within the City Corporation's plantations on the Waipori watershed, and suggested the appointment of several men to warn anyone lighting fires or carelessly handling matches.—The letter was received. MIMIHAU HUT

Mr W. A. Leitch (Wyndham) wrote stating that he had put a stock-proof fence round the Mimihau hut. and repaired the window, fireplace, etc. The hut was now in good order.—lt was deceided to recognise Mr Leitch's services.
