♦ j CONDITIONS IN BRITAIN REPLY TO ALLEGATIONS (Per United Press Association) WELLINGTON, Oct'. 28. • In a statment made to the Evening. Post, the United Kingdom Manufacturers and the New Zealand Representatives' Association says in reply; to the New Zealand Manufacturers* Federation regarding statements made about the footwear industry: n "In its remarks the New Zealand Federation infers that footwear imEorted into New Zealand from the: nited Kingdom is made under rates and conditions that are not tolerated in New Zealand. We wish to remind ; the New Zealand -Manufacturers' Federation that we have already twice entirely refuted similar ;dlegationi as to working conditions to the,United Kingdom—once on oath before the last Tariff Commission to the complete satisfaction of that body. It is regrettable that the New Zealand Manufacturers' Federation persists in these tactics, and we definitely say that, as.; far as the footwear industry in the; United Kingdom is concerned, those factories making for export to New, Zealand have working conditions which are satisfactory in every way, and would more than comply with New | Zealand factory rM»»iroments.
