BOWLING LABOUR DAY TOURNAMENT ' Twelve rinks took part, including three from Waimate, in the Labour Day bowling tournament held by the Phoenix Club. Four rinks qualified, as follows: — Common, Treseder, Lewis, Slater 4 wins; Borrie, Moyle, A. Robertson, Hodge 4 Wins; Hutt, Maxwell, W. Grant, Thcrnson 3 wins; Blakcy, Colenso, Easton, Buist 3 wins; Oats, J. Robertson, Foster, Stevens 3 wins. In the play-off Buist beat Stevens, Thomson beat Hodge, Buist beat Slater; and in the final Buist beat Thomson 7—4. KAKANUI PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH CALL TO : MR JOHN FREEMAN A meeting of, members and adherents of the Kakanui Presbyterian Church was held on Sunday afternoon, when it was unanimously decided to fill in the name of John Freeman, 8.A., to the call which is to be forwarded to the presbytery. The call was then signed by a large number of those present, and a further opportunity of signing it will be given next Sunday afternoon. Messrs G- Robertson and G. Macdonald were appointed to represent the Kakanui congregation. The Rev. H. O. Bowman (Maheno) presided over the meeting. GENERAL NEWS • ¥ The Kakanui Lawn Tennis Club opened the season on Saturday afternoon, when there was a good attendance of members, members of sister clubs, and friends. The courts were in splendid order. After giving a welcome to all present the president (Mr Carlton) declared the courts open. A competition was won by Mr I. Fricker and a Yankee tournament resulted in a win for Mr and Mrs- McGrath. Afternoon tea was served by the ladies. PORT OF OAMARU High Water.—October 27: 8.46 a.m. and 9.17 p.m. The Waipiata, from Auckland on Friday, October 29, is due on November 6 to discharge and load for Wellington and Auckland, via ports. The Waipahi will load on Friday, November 5, for Wellington, Nelson, and New Plymouth, via Timaru and Lyttelton. The Wainui will load to-morrow, October 28, for Wellington, Napier, and Gisborne, via Timaru and Lyttelton. The Karetu will load at Port Kembla to-day, thence Sydney, taking Oamaru cargo at direct rates of freight.
