YOUNG MAN DROWNED DINGHY i CAPSIZES IN HEAVY SEA (Per United Press Association) WELLINGTON, Oct. 25. \ Under the eyes of his parents, Alan Melville McDowell, aged 24, a salesman, was drowned following the capsize of a dinghy in 'a heavy swell at Ohiro Bay yesterday morning. His body had not yet been recovered. McDowell put out alone from Ohiro Bay in an eight-foot dinghy, which was later seen to capsize. Watchers on, the beach saw McDowell strike out for a large rock, and extend his arm to grasp it, and then disappear. He is presumed to have been dashed against the rocks by a wave and stunned or winded, and drowned. The young man lived with his parents, Mr and Mrs E. T. McDowell, at Hataitai. WOMAN KILLED FELL UNDER RAILWAY TRAIN (Per United Press Association) CHRISTCHURCH, Oct. 25. A middle-aged woman returning to Christchurch on an excursion train from Greymouth was killed at the Addington Station at 1 o’clock this morning. She was Mrs Harriett Clifford Biltcliff, of 41 St. Asaph street. , Mrs Biltcliff was standing on the station platform, and as the train began to move she was seen to stumble and fall backwards. She was found underneath a carriage. Her husband and the guard were standing near her on the platform at the time, but were unable to assist her. INJURIES TO HEAD Matilda Merry, an elderly married woman, residing at 8 Wilkie street, was admitted to the Hospital at 2 a.m. yesterday suffering from a cut on the head. The injury was received when she tripped over a chair at her home. PELLET WOUND Jimmy King, aged nine years, who resides with his parents at 285 King street, was admitted to the Hospital at 5.30 p.m. yesterday suffering from a pellet wound in the leg, which h« received while he was playing if Cumberland street.
