A method by which, it is claimed, under-sized people can be made to grow to a normal height has been developed by Dr Oscar Riddle, of the Carnegie Institute at Washington. So far experiments have been made only with animals, but in the not-too-distant future, according to Dr Riddle, the same treatment may be applied to human beings. The treatment consists of the systematic injection of growth hormones, which are normally secreted by the pituitary gland, placed at the base of the skull. The importance of this development lies not merely in the height-increasing abilities it possesses.
